    Evaluation Sign-Ups

    Attention Parents:

    • If you have an 8 year-old or under swimmer who swam on the competitive CPSD swim team last year (not as a Mini Sea Dragon), your child does NOT need to be evaluated for swim team.
    • All other 8 year-old and under swimmers (both new and returning Mini Sea Dragons) need to be evaluated for 2026 placement. Please read below about evaluation sign-ups.

Greetings Cary Park Sea Dragon (CPSD) Families with young swimmers!

Welcome new and returning 8 and under swimmers! We look forward to seeing you on Monday, May 11th!

May 11th will be a busy day with the start of practice (see schedule here), Family Orientation, and Swim evaluations, so make sure you have it on your calendar.

Swim evaluations will be held during the first 2 weeks of swim season prior to the June 1 registration deadline. Evaluations are designed to assess the current skill level of each swimmer. Evaluations are not designed to teach children to swim (they are not swim lessons).

    Coach evaluations are required for:

    1. All NEW team members 8 yrs and under,
    2. All RETURNING Mini Sea Dragons, and
    3. Upon the coach's recommendation

(Parents may request an evaluation for any age swimmer.)

After evaluations, coaches assign swimmers to:

    1. Cary Park Sea Dragons competitive team
    2. Mini Sea Dragons pre-competitive team
    3. Recommended swim lesson development outside of the team and evaluation next swim season for readiness to join the Competitive or Mini Sea Dragons. Full registration will be refunded.

    Team Eligibility:

    • Cary Park Sea Dragons Competitive Team Eligibility: Able to swim the length of the pool (25 yds) multiple times as evaluated by the coaches.
    • Mini Sea Dragons Pre-competitive Team Eligibility: Able to swim at least 10 yards independently and able to get their own breath while swimming.

    Swim Evaluation Sign-ups by Age:

    • Evaluations will be held during the first 2 weeks of swim season prior to the June 1 registration deadline.
    • Parents will select a 15-min time slot and the swimmer will come daily Monday through Thursday (May 11th through May 21st) at that time slot until notified of the final evaluation outcome.

    7 & 8-year-olds:

    • For swimmers who are 7 and 8 years old and were on the Mini Sea Dragons in 2025 or who are NEW to the Sea Dragons, please sign up for an evaluation slot at either 5:15, 5:30 or 5:45 pm on MONDAY, May 11thusing the link below.
    • Following evaluation, swimmers will be invited to join the 7/8 age group practice starting on Monday May 11th at 6 pm, or asked to return for ongoing evaluation (in the same time slot you signed up for on the first day - don't sign up again).

    5 year-olds and under:

    • For swimmers who are 5 and under and were on the Mini Sea Dragons in 2025 or who are NEW to the Sea Dragons, evaluations will start on TUESDAY, May 13th.
    • In order to prevent pool lane congestion during the evaluation process and have sufficient coach support to work with the youngest kids, we will start on Tuesday instead of Monday.
    • Please use the below link to sign up for an evaluation slot for Tuesday, May 12th (5:15-6:30 pm in 15-minute increments).

On-going Evaluation Through Thursday, May 21st:

    • Recognizing that many young swimmers have not been in the pool during the winter and spring months, and that the Cary Park pool water can be cold in May, we encourage swimmers who don't immediately get placed in their age group or on the Minis to continue coming to their designated evaluation time slot for additional practice during the eval period (ends 5/21). You don't need to sign-up again, just come at the same slot. Note, it's not a problem to miss eval days -- no one is taking attendance in summer swim! This is only a recommendation if your young swimmer is struggling with the evaluation process.

More information on Evaluations, Mini Sea Dragons, and Swimmer Eligibility is posted to the CPSD Team Website:

For additional questions, families are encouraged to attend a Family Orientation Information Session that will be hosted directly before swimmer evaluations:

    • Monday, May 11th 4:30-5:15 pm at the Cary Park Clubhouse
