Meet 3 Home, Age Group Party RSVP, Cary City Meet, Open Volunteer Slots, News & Observer

    6/22/2024

Greetings Cary Park Sea Dragon (CPSD) Families!

Sea Dragons showed great team spirit against University Club on Tuesday! It was a high-energy, fun, and fast meet! Great job Sea Dragons!

This Tuesday, June 25th, Sea Dragons will host the Scottish Hills Sea Lions at home! TONIGHT at 11:30 pm is the Meet Sign-up Deadline! Please RSVP if your swimmer will be attending or not attending, indicate relay participation status, and preferred events (if any). Come wearing your Sea Dragon Red and Black! Complete Meet Info Below.

Last call to RSVP for Age Group Parties; please RSVP by Monday, June 24th (Signup Calendar here) so we have an accurate headcount for food. Swimmers will enjoy swimming, pizza, treats, and making fun swim posters.

    • 10 and Under Party:  Wednesday, June 26th 5:30 - 9 pm
    • 11 and Up Party:  Thursday, June 27th 8:30 - 11 pm

Please note, for the 10 and Under Party, swimmers arrive at 5:30 pm (parent volunteers arrive earlier at 5 pm). While coaches and chaperones will be present to assist, it is expected parents of young children will be actively involved in the supervision of their own children, especially in the wade pool. For the 11 and Up Party, parents please pick up your swimmers at 11 pm.

Mark your calendars! Cary City Invitational Swim Meet will be held on Saturday, July 13th at the Scottish Hills Recreational Club in Cary. All 50 TSA Southern Division teams are invited to participate. There are two sessions: 10 & Unders swim in the morning and 11 & Up swim in the afternoon.

***NEW REQUIREMENT for CARY CITY SWIM MEET PARTICIPATION***

All swimmers who participate in Cary City must have a parent volunteer at the meet. This volunteer requirement is separate from the 12-points required at dual meets for team membership. Meet Officials require Cary Park Sea Dragons to send timers, runners, kid pushers, and stroke and turn judges; our team also needs volunteers for set-up, dragon tamers, and breakdown. As a result of this new volunteer requirement, the CPSD BOD will be covering meet entry fees for swimmers this year. Families no longer need to pay per event BUT parents will be required to volunteer at the meet. More information to come on volunteering and meet sign-up.

Cary City is an outdoor swim meet with a focus on team spirit. Each team has a team tent decorated with a fun theme. Cary City is an opportunity for swimmers to improve their personal times, and Sea Dragon swimmers are also scored as a team (Cary Park Sea Dragons traditionally place very high). Please note, 6 & Unders may only swim 25 yards (a full lap) in free and/or back at this meet.

Still need volunteer points to complete your 12-pt Service Requirement?

There are plenty of open volunteer position:

    • Wed June 26th 5 - 9 pm: 10&U Party Chaperone
    • July 2nd Away Meet:
      • Dragon Tamer for 6&U Girls, 6&U Boys, 7&8 Girls, and 11-12 Boys; Runner Shift 2; Breakdown Crew; Kid Pusher for both Girls and Boys Shift 2
    • July 9th Away Meet:
      • Two Timers Shift 2; Runner Shift 2; Kid Pusher Boys Shift 2; Ribbon Writer Shift 2; Breakdown Crew; Tents and Supply Transport Shift 2
    • Thurs July 11th 8:45-9:15 am: Dragon Desserts Distributor
    • July 16th Home Meet:
      • Dragon Tamer 7&8 Boys; Head Timer; Participation Ribbon Distributor; Parking Volunteer
    • July 23rd Awards Ceremony:
      • Set-up Crew; Trophy Set-up; Breakdown Crew

Volunteer Service Points are monitored to ensure a successful season. Swimmers' season awards, medals, and certificates will be withheld until the commitment is resolved with the VP of Volunteers. Families who do not complete the Volunteer Service Requirement this season also jeopardize their swimmers’ eligibility to return to the swim team next summer.

Please sign up to volunteer at the Signup Calendar here.

Reminder, during this Monday, June 24th’s evening practice, News and Observer reporters will be taking photos and conducting interviews. Please remember to wear your Sea Dragon Red and Black t-shirts, suits, and swim caps. If you do NOT want your swimmer to be photographed, please let Suzanne Francart ([email protected]) or Coach Olivia know as soon as possible.

Reminder from the Cary Park Swim Club Pool Committee:

    • Swim Team Families must use their pool membership FOB to sign in and out of the pool during swim practices. This is especially important for morning practice when the main gate remains locked for safety reasons. Do not enter the pool before coaches are on deck and morning practice begins.
    • If your pool FOB does not let you access the main pool gate, please contact Gloria Garver to assist you in obtaining access: [email protected].
